Pre-Bonded Extensions Aftercare: Making I-Tip, U-Tip and V-Tip Last Longer

Buying pre-bonded for a salon? The care rules below are what you would hand to a client. What decides whether a bond holds in the first place is the keratin and the hair inside it — the questions worth asking a supplier covers that, and the I/U/V tip range lists our strand weights.

Why Bond Care Decides Everything

With pre-bonded (keratin-tipped) extensions the bond is the product. A well-cared I-tip, U-tip or V-tip set can be re-bonded and worn for months; a neglected one loosens in weeks. The three bond shapes - see our I-tip pre-bonded human hair extension - all share the same aftercare rules; they differ only in how much anchor the shape gives.

The First 48 Hours

This is where most bond failures start. For the first two days the client should not wash, not tie the hair up tight, and not sleep with it wet. The keratin is still settling against the natural strand, and moisture plus tension is what opens a fresh bond. Tell clients up front: 'look, don't wash' for 48 hours.

Washing Bonded Hair

  • Lean back: wash in the basin with the head tipped back so water does not drive up the bonds from below.
  • Scalp only: massage the scalp with fingertips; let the suds run through the lengths rather than scrubbing the bonds.
  • No oils at the root: oil-based serums melt keratin. Keep them on the mid-lengths and ends only.

Brushing Without Pulling

Always brush from the ends upward with a loop or soft-bristle brush, and never yank through a knot - it rips the bond off the natural hair. The blonde U-tip keratin hair extension has the largest bond and is the most forgiving to brush; fine V-tip bonds need a lighter hand.

Heat, Products and Sleep

Heat tools are fine on the hair (real human hair) but keep them off the bonds themselves. At night, a loose braid and a satin pillowcase stop the bonds from grinding against each other. The U-tip pre-bonded silky straight hair is popular precisely because its round bond survives rougher sleep habits better than a flat tip.

A Simple Re-Bonding Schedule

Most clients re-bond every 8 to 10 weeks as the natural hair grows out. At each visit the stylist removes the old keratin, re-tips the strand, and re-applies it. Strands are reused two or three times, so the tangle-free U/I/V pre-bonded keratin hair pack is a genuine repeat purchase, not a one-off. Book the re-bond before the roots show a 2 cm gap.

Choosing the Right Bond for Longevity

If a client is hard on their hair or sleeps rough, specify U-tip for the stronger anchor. If the hair is fine and the bond must disappear, V-tip or I-tip hide better. Match the bond to the client's habits, not just to the look, and the set will last the full cycle. Tell us the client profile and we will recommend a strand weight and bond mix for your next order.
